The Marburger Farm Antique Show welcomes author Karen Weir-Jimerson to our blockbuster Spring show! Starting today, April 5th through Saturday April 7th, Weir-Jimerson will sign copies of her delicious new collection of essays, “So Much Sky.” Shoppers will be able to visit with the author in a special book-signing tent near Tent G. On Thursday and Friday, book signing hours will be 10 am – noon and 2 – 4 pm. On Saturday April 7, hours are 10 am – noon.
The new book offers up bite-sized gems that view modern life through a rural lens. Many of these pieces were originally published in the author’s popular “Slow Lane” column for Country Home magazine, and seeing them here collected one is convinced that the column was aptly named. Time does indeed seem to slow as Weir-Jimerson lures us into a charming world of chirping crickets, rogue tornados, and country characters both animal and human.
Karen Weir-Jimerson is the author of eight books on gardening and now writes a column for “Country Gardens” magazine. She has published articles in “Better Homes and Gardens,” “Family Circle,” “Midwest Living,” “Horticulture,” and many more magazines. She lives in rural Iowa with her husband Doug and a large cast of animals, including 3horses, 3 donkeys, 6 sheep, 7 dogs, 11 cats, and more.
The essays in “So Much Sky” are arranged by season. From spring through winter we share the family’s adventures with lambing, lack of closets, sheep shearing, morel hunting, finding skeletons in boxes at rural auctions, the political correctness of home-grown peas, irresistible petty crime, green Jello as a food group, bird and butterfly migration, a cacophony of clocks, and unsuccessful horseback rides that land you flat on the ground, so close to the earth you actually hear the hooves clattering away, and more.
Weir-Jimerson brings to each of these short delicacies an acute eye for detail, an ample helping of humor, a joyful command of language and a humanity, passion and wit sharpened by a life lived far from the madding crowd. The antiques world of Marburger Farm welcomes this kindred spirit to our show. For more information on the new book, visit the website here.
